Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but when we begin to look at it from different perspectives, we discover that much of it is rooted in how we relate to our own thoughts. Today, I want to explore how disconnection from ourselves creates anxious thinking—and how you can reconnect with the present moment to ease anxiety.

Understanding the Flow of Life and Anxiety

Think of life as a river. When the river flows freely, everything moves naturally and smoothly. But when we block it, the water builds up behind the dam. Eventually, that pressure must release—either by breaking through or finding another path around. Anxiety works in the same way, that when we block emotional flow, it builds up and either breaks through in a torrent or finds another path around.

When we resist our feelings and disconnect from the present moment, our natural flow of experience gets blocked. Instead of feeling life directly in the body with flow and ease, it gets diverted into repetitive thoughts, fears, and imagined scenarios. This creates tension, nervous energy, and a sense of being “out of sync” with ourselves.

Coming Back Into the Present Moment

The good news is that you can reduce this resistance. The more you return to your body, breath, and experience in your physical felt sense, the more life feels natural again. Your mind, body, and spirit begin to reintegrate, and anxiety softens. Over time, this builds confidence, self-acceptance, and comfort with life as it unfolds.

Helpful Tips for Releasing Anxiety and People-Pleasing

• Notice when you’re caught in thought. Ask yourself: am I living this moment directly, or only in my head?

• Come back to your breath. Gentle awareness of each inhale and exhale reconnects you to the present.

• Allow feelings to be felt. Instead of pushing away uncomfortable emotions, give them space to move through you.

• Practice daily. Short, simple moments of mindful breathing add up over time, making it easier to stay present.

• Build self-acceptance. Anxiety often comes from trying to meet others’ expectations. Returning to yourself helps ease people-pleasing patterns.
