Welcome to Video 13 in my Financial Stress & Money Mindset series.
In the previous videos, we’ve talked about becoming more authentic, recognizing old subconscious patterns, and learning to stay on track when life becomes challenging. Today I’d like to explore another important piece of that puzzle: your nervous system.
At first, you might wonder what your nervous system has to do with financial stress or creating greater abundance.
In my experience, it has a lot to do with it.
When we spend much of our lives in a stressed state, we begin operating from automatic coping programs stored in our subconscious mind. Those programs are usually built around survival rather than growth. They focus on lack instead of possibility, fear instead of openness.
Over time, we begin reacting automatically instead of consciously choosing how we’d like to respond.
One of the goals of mindfulness is learning to regulate and balance the nervous system so we can become the person we’re truly meant to be, rather than simply living from the habits we’ve developed over the years.
To receive something new, we need to become open and receptive to it.
If we’re constantly anxious, overwhelmed, doubting ourselves, or stuck in repetitive thinking, it becomes difficult to experience that openness. Our attention stays focused on problems, worries, and everything that feels unsafe.
When our nervous system remains in fight-or-flight, abundance can be difficult to recognize because our mind is primarily searching for threats.
This is why learning to calm the nervous system is so important.
Rather than constantly reacting to life, we begin responding with greater awareness.
That process starts by becoming present.
As we’ve discussed throughout this series, the awareness practice teaches us to notice our thoughts, emotions, and body sensations without immediately trying to escape them.
The more willing we are to stay present with our experience, the less we need our old coping mechanisms.
Instead of automatically reacting, we begin creating space for conscious choice.
That simple shift changes everything.
Becoming More Than Your Old Programming
I’ve mentioned in previous videos that what got you here can’t get you there.
Much of how we think, react, and behave has been shaped by our past. Some estimates suggest that much of our daily behaviour is automatic, driven by subconscious habits we’ve repeated over many years.
If we want to create something different in our lives, we have to begin responding differently.
When we’re living in a constant state of stress, our sympathetic nervous system—the fight-or-flight response—keeps us focused on problems, danger, and survival. Notice where your attention naturally goes.
Are you frequently thinking about what’s wrong?
Do you spend a lot of time worrying, focusing on lack, or replaying negative events?
If so, your nervous system may simply be doing what it has learned to do.
The good news is that these patterns can change.
As you begin practising mindfulness, becoming present, and allowing yourself to fully experience your thoughts and feelings without immediately reacting to them, you gradually loosen the grip of those old automatic programs.
Instead of living on autopilot, you begin making conscious choices.
You stop asking, “Why is this happening to me?” and begin asking, “What’s the next step toward the life I want to create?”
That shift is powerful.
Rather than becoming trapped in the problem, you begin becoming the person who can create solutions.
As your confidence grows, so does your capacity to handle life’s challenges. You no longer need every circumstance to be perfect before you can feel okay.
You begin developing the inner stability to remain grounded, even when life feels uncertain.
That’s one of the foundations of creating greater abundance—not because you’re forcing life to change, but because you’re becoming a different person in the way you meet it.

Living From a Place of Calm Instead of Fear
One practical way to begin changing your life is simply to notice when your nervous system becomes activated.
Do you feel tense while driving?
Do you rush through your meals?
Do you find yourself constantly worrying or trying to control everything around you?
These are often signs that your body has become accustomed to living in a stressed state.
The good news is that this can change.
Each time you notice you’ve become triggered and gently bring yourself back to the present moment, you’re strengthening a healthier way of living. Over time, it becomes easier to relax, appreciate what’s already in your life, and approach challenges with greater confidence instead of fear.
If you would like support with this, I offer a free one-hour video consultation where we can explore the stress patterns, limiting beliefs, nervous system responses, and subconscious habits that may be affecting your relationship with money, confidence, and abundance. Together we can discuss your goals, explore the patterns that may be holding you back, explain my therapy approach, and see whether we’re the right fit to work together.

One final thought before you go.
The more you learn to regulate your nervous system, the less your past has to determine your future.
You become less driven by automatic survival patterns and more able to respond from awareness, authenticity, and choice.
That doesn’t happen overnight.
It happens one mindful moment at a time.
In the next video, we’ll explore why meditation is one of the most powerful ways to calm the nervous system and why it’s such an important part of creating lasting change.
Thank you for reading, and I wish you a wonderful week.
