Do you often find yourself caught in overwhelm, anxiety, or stress and unsure how to navigate through it? You’re not alone. Many people experience moments like this, and I’m here to share three simple steps to help calm your mind and reconnect with the present moment.

Todays video is part 1 of a 3 video short series that I’ve created to help you regain your sense of peace and balance. Let’s dive in.

Step 1: Pause and Notice

The first step is to pause. When you feel yourself entering a triggered state of stress, anxiety, or overwhelm, give yourself permission to stop what you’re doing. Simply pause for a moment. This creates a gap between the trigger and your reaction, giving you the opportunity to reset.

By pausing, you’re telling yourself it’s okay to take a moment, to sit with the experience instead of pushing through it. This small, intentional action can make a significant difference in how you manage stress.

Step 2: Focus on Your Breathing

Once you’ve paused, shift your attention to your breath. Allow yourself to disconnect from the racing thoughts or tasks that are overwhelming you. Follow a few cycles of deep, intentional breaths:

•Take in a full breath, feeling the sensation of air entering your body.

•Let it go slowly, releasing tension as you exhale.

•Consciously relax your shoulders, letting them drop as you breathe.

Repeat this a few times, and notice how your body begins to soften and your mind starts to clear. This step reconnects you with your body, grounding you in the present moment.

Step 3: Reflect on Your Thoughts and Notice where your attention was

Finally, take a moment to notice where your thoughts were just before the stress or overwhelm hit. Ask yourself:

•Was I overwhelmed by a long to-do list?

•Was something specific happening that triggered me?

•Was I caught up in thinking about the past or worrying about the future?

Chances are, your thoughts pulled you away from the present moment. When we’re stuck in our heads, disconnected from our bodies, it signals to the subconscious mind that something might be wrong, triggering a stress response.

By recognizing this pattern, you can gently guide yourself back to the present moment. Repeat the process of pausing, breathing, and reflecting as needed.

Practical Tips to Help You Navigate anxiety and Stress

Here are a few additional pointers to help you manage stress and maintain a healthy balance:

• Acknowledge your triggers: Recognize the patterns or situations that often lead to overwhelm or anxiety.

• Set healthy boundaries: Give yourself permission to say no when needed and prioritize your well-being. By honouring your own needs, you create space for self-care, reducing stress and preventing overwhelm

• Practice mindfulness daily: Regular mindfulness practice helps you stay connected to the present moment.

• Be kind to yourself: Understand that it’s okay to pause and take care of yourself.
