This is Video #9 in my Financial Stress & Money Mindset series.
Last week we talked about setting intentions at the beginning of the day, reflecting at the end of the day, and completing your day before going to bed. I think these practices are very helpful because they gently guide us in a particular direction instead of simply reacting to whatever life brings.
This week I want to explore a simple idea that can create profound change:
What got you here can’t get you there.
Think about where you are in your life right now. Everything you’ve done up until this point has helped create the person you’ve become and the results you’re currently experiencing. Your habits, your beliefs, your routines, your comfort zone, and the actions you’ve consistently taken have all contributed to your present reality.
But if your goal is to create something greater—whether that’s financial freedom, greater abundance, a healthier relationship with money, or simply becoming a more fulfilled version of yourself—then continuing to do exactly what you’ve always done will likely continue producing the same results.
Albert Einstein is often credited with saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. Whether or not he actually said those exact words, the principle is very true.
If we want different experiences, we have to become a different version of ourselves.
That doesn’t mean changing who we are at our core. It means continually learning, growing, stretching, and gradually becoming more capable of creating the life we truly want.
One of the beautiful things about being human is that we continually get to grow.
We set a goal, work toward it, learn from it, accomplish it, and then naturally begin looking toward the next level of growth. Many people believe they’ll finally be happy once they reach a particular goal. They think, “When I get there, then everything will be good.”
But lasting fulfillment doesn’t usually come from arriving somewhere and staying there.
It comes from continually evolving.
It comes from learning new things, exploring new experiences, growing into a new version of yourself, and bringing fresh curiosity and excitement into your life. That’s often where the deepest sense of fulfillment, satisfaction, and enjoyment comes from.
What we practice is what we become.
If we continue practising the same habits, thinking the same thoughts, and responding to life in the same ways, we’re strengthening those patterns. We’ll naturally continue getting similar results.
If our goal is to keep growing and creating new experiences in our lives, then we have to keep gradually stretching beyond our comfort zone and continually evolving.
For example, maybe you’ve been doing affirmations for quite a while, and they’ve been working really well. Earlier in this series I talked about gratitude and focusing on what we’re grateful for. Those are wonderful practices, and I’m certainly not suggesting you stop doing them.
But sometimes we can get into the habit of doing the same personal growth tools in exactly the same way for so long that they begin losing their effectiveness.
It’s a little like watching a movie.
The first time you see a really great movie, it’s exciting. You might tell all your friends about it because you enjoyed it so much. Maybe you go back and watch it again with someone else, and you notice little details you missed the first time.
You watch it a third time, and it’s still enjoyable.
But imagine watching that exact same movie every single day for two weeks.
Eventually, even though it was once your favourite movie, it starts becoming repetitive. It loses its excitement. In fact, you might begin dreading the thought of watching it again.
Life can work in a similar way.
Bringing new experiences into your life creates freshness. It brings curiosity, creativity, excitement, and a sense of discovery.
That’s why I think it’s important to continually mix things up.
Keep looking at your goals.
Keep reconnecting with the deeper essence of why those goals matter to you.
Appreciate where you are right now and enjoy the life you’ve already created, but at the same time, be willing to gently step beyond your comfort zone into new experiences.
Remain open.
Sometimes we become so attached to one specific path that we believe it has to unfold exactly as we originally planned.
But life doesn’t always work that way.
Sometimes we begin learning something new, investing our time and energy into a project or developing a particular skill, believing that’s exactly where we’re supposed to end up.
Then something changes.
We may suddenly lose our passion for it.
Now, I’m not talking about procrastination or fear. I’m not talking about subconscious blocks, distractions, or limiting beliefs that sabotage us from following through.
Those are different.
I’m talking about those times when the excitement simply isn’t there anymore, while something else begins calling to us.
Sometimes a particular experience was only meant to take us to a certain point.
It helped us grow into the person we needed to become.
It taught us valuable lessons.
And once we’ve learned those lessons, perhaps we’ve completed that chapter.
It’s worth taking a step back and honestly asking yourself:
Is this something I’m avoiding because of fear or insecurity?
Or have I genuinely learned what I needed to learn, and it’s time to move in a different direction?
Sometimes it can be difficult to tell the difference.
That’s why self-awareness is so important.
If you feel you’ve completed something, perhaps set it aside for a little while and notice what naturally begins drawing your attention.
Ask yourself:
“What am I genuinely excited about now?”
“What feels aligned with the person I’m becoming?”
“What experiences do I want to bring into my life next?”
As you reconnect with the essence of your goals, begin exploring those new possibilities.
Allow yourself to become curious.
Be open to change.
Sometimes our next step isn’t something we’ve carefully planned. Sometimes it quietly reveals itself as we continue growing and paying attention to what genuinely inspires us.
In the next video, I’ll talk more about listening to that excitement and learning to trust the guidance of your heart.
Because excitement often points us toward growth.
If we’re continually filling our lives with things we don’t enjoy, we’re slowly creating a future filled with experiences we don’t enjoy.
But when we begin paying attention to what genuinely feels meaningful and aligned, we’re much more likely to build a life that feels fulfilling.
So this week, I’d encourage you to reflect on where you are today.
Ask yourself:
•Is what I’m doing today still moving me toward the life I want to create?
•Am I simply repeating the same patterns because they’re comfortable?
•What areas of my life might need to evolve?
•What small adjustments could I begin making this week?
•Is it time to expand my goals or even create new ones?
Sometimes the goal itself doesn’t need to change – Sometimes it’s simply our approach.
As we continue growing, we naturally gain new skills, greater wisdom, and different perspectives.
So instead of asking,
“How have I always done this?”
perhaps ask,
“How would I approach this today as the person I’ve become?”
Sometimes that’s all that’s needed.
A small course correction.
A slightly different perspective.
A willingness to keep growing instead of standing still.
Growth isn’t about becoming someone else.
It’s about continually becoming more fully yourself.

Financial Stress & Money Mindset Series

One of the most important parts of this whole process is mindfulness.
If we’re constantly caught up in our thoughts, reacting automatically, or rushing through life, it’s very difficult to notice what we’re actually feeling.
It’s difficult to notice the difference between fear and genuine guidance.
It’s difficult to recognize whether we’re being held back by limiting beliefs and subconscious sabotage, or whether life is gently encouraging us to move in a new direction.
The more connected we become to our bodies and our inner experience, the easier it becomes to notice those subtle differences.
That’s why I place so much importance on developing an awareness practice.
When we slow down and become present, we begin noticing what excites us, what drains us, what feels aligned, and what no longer fits.
Instead of making decisions purely from habit or fear, we begin making decisions from greater clarity and awareness.
This doesn’t mean every decision suddenly becomes easy.
It simply means we’re much more connected to ourselves when making them.
As you continue working through this series, I encourage you to keep practising your daily awareness meditation.
The more consistently you practise, the easier it becomes to recognize the thoughts, emotions, and subconscious patterns that may be influencing your financial stress, your confidence, and the choices you’re making each day.

Bringing It All Together
This week, I encourage you to spend some time reflecting on where you are in your life.
Rather than simply continuing with the same routines because they’re familiar, ask yourself whether they’re still supporting the person you’re becoming.
Consider these questions:
•What habits have helped me get to where I am today?
•Which of those habits still support the life I want to create?
•Where might I need to grow or make some adjustments?
•Is there something new that’s genuinely exciting me?
•Am I holding myself back because of fear, or is life inviting me in a new direction?
Remember, growth doesn’t always require dramatic changes.
Often it’s simply making small course corrections that gradually bring you into greater alignment with your goals and the essence of the life you want to create.
Allow yourself to appreciate how far you’ve already come.
At the same time, remain open to learning, growing, and becoming the next version of yourself.
What got you here has served an important purpose.
Now ask yourself:
What will help get me to where I want to go next?
As you continue through this series, keep practising your awareness meditation each day. The more connected you become with your thoughts, emotions, and body, the easier it becomes to recognize genuine guidance, notice limiting beliefs, and make choices that are aligned with the future you’re creating.
In the next video, we’ll take this one step further by exploring how to listen to the excitement in your heart and learn to trust that inner guidance system as you continue creating a life that’s meaningful, fulfilling, and aligned with who you truly are.
Thank you for joining me, and I hope you’ll spend some time this week reflecting on what changes might help you continue growing.
Have a wonderful week.
